鬆柔太極拳法應用,要能在彼此互動中,循環往復,生生不息,最關鍵的要素,是在切磋的過程中,彼此「留有餘地」,讓對手有延續招法的機會,所謂:「留有餘地」就是手臂保持「鬆持」的狀態,不過度鬆懈,也沒有強力的出現,彼此的手臂如同一座浮橋,連接彼此身體的重心,這個手法稱為「搭橋」,也稱「搭手」。
太極八法中的「掤手」是最佳的橋樑,也是延續彼此招法應用的命脈。掤手讓彼此有反覆練習,虛領頂勁、沉肩墜肘、含胸拔背、鬆腰落胯、虛實分清的機會,讓掤、捋、擠、按⋯在彼此互動中,循環往覆,生生不息。如太極拳論:「陰不離陽,陽不離陰,陰陽相濟,方為懂勁」。輕靈敏銳的身手及聽勁,自然在互動中增長。

In the application of Supple Tai Chi techniques, the key element for continuous and unending interaction is the principle of "leaving room for each other" during practice. This means maintaining a state of "relaxed holding" in the arms—not overly loose, but also not exerting strong force. The arms act as a floating bridge, connecting the centers of gravity of both partners' bodies. This technique is called "building a bridge," also known as "connecting hands."

The "Peng Hand" in the Eight Techniques of Tai Chi is the best bridge and the lifeline for the continuation of each other's techniques. Peng Hand allows for repeated practice of maintaining a subtle force at the top, sinking the shoulders and dropping the elbows, containing the chest and lifting the back, relaxing the waist, and sinking the hips. It also clarifies the distinction between emptiness and solidity. This practice allows the techniques of Peng, Lu, Ji, An, etc., to circulate continuously in the interaction between partners. As the Tai Chi classics state: "Yin does not depart from Yang, Yang does not depart from Yin; Yin and Yang complement each other, which is the way to understand energy." Lightness, sensitivity, and the ability to listen to energy naturally grow through this interactive practice.
